There are two disabled parking spaces in the car park in the outer bailey; from there you can reach the Schaumberg courtyard (ticket office building and castle restaurant) without barriers.
With the help of a tactile model made of patinated bronze and stainless steel on a scale of around 1:500, the entire dimensions of the imposing castle complex can be grasped with your hands. The model, measuring around 140 x 90 cm, stands on a plinth whose height is suitable for children and people in wheelchairs.
There are two barrier-free toilets available: One toilet can be found in the restaurant, the other directly after the passage to the Gemmingen courtyard on the right-hand side.
The ticket office building, the castle restaurant and the banqueting hall are accessible at ground level and without steps from the Schaumberg courtyard. The entrance doors to the ticket office can be opened automatically using a button; the thresholds of the outer doors are 2.5 cm high.
The barrier-free interior, which also houses the museum shop, is accessed via a vestibule (inner door width 94 cm). From the ticket office, you can reach the Schildmauer courtyard via a second vestibule and from there the museums in the Gemmingen courtyard via a level natural stone paved path.
There is a 15 cm step at the main entrance to the museum; barrier-free access (inner door width 94 cm) is located a few metres to the left of the main entrance in the arcade.
The tour of the exhibition rooms is barrier-free; however, a gallery that extends over several rooms is only accessible via stairs.
Level, non-slip flooring
Seats available
The two rooms for temporary exhibitions, which are separate from the main museum, are not barrier-free (door threshold height 9 to 15 cm).
The museum is located on the first floor of the Gemmingen building and is only accessible via stairs.
Access via the Gemmingen courtyard; the viewing platform is only accessible via stairs.
Access to the deep well via the Gemmingen courtyard is not barrier-free. Unfortunately, it is not possible to look into the deep well (diameter 3.25 m, depth 76.5 m) from a wheelchair.
The Bastion Garden can be reached without steps; however, there are stretches on the path with a gradient of over 6%. The path surface is mainly paved gravel; seating is available.
